Kawase Hasui (1883-1957) Showa era (1926-1989), dated 1929 An oban tate-e print, titled along the left margin Beppu no yu (Evening in Beppu) from the series Tabi miyage dai sanshu (Souvenirs of Travel, Third Series), depicting a wintry scene along the waterside promenade in the famous onsen resort of Beppu, showing two trees wedged between a stone wall, the barren branches splayed across the whole composition, lights shining from a row of timber-built inns at the foot of a mountain in the background, dated Showa yonen saku (Work of Showa 4 [1929]), published by Watanabe Shozaburo, with a Hanken shoyu Watanabe Shozaburo seal along the lower right margin; signed Hasui with Kawase seal. Measures: 38.2cm x 26cm (15in x 10¼in).

    A beautiful and rich woodblock print by famed Japanese artist Kawase Hasui. This print titled "Mount Fuji in Moonlight, Kawai Bridge (Tsukiyo no Fuji, Kawaibashi)" was originally published in 1947 and it depicts a man heading home crossing the river on the Kawai bridge as evening descends with the majestic Mount Fuji in the background.
